Welcome to the island of Mljet, the most beautiful and most forested island in the Adriatic and one of the most beautiful pearls of the Mediterranean.

The entire island is lush and exceedingly beautiful. 

Mljet is 23 miles from Dubrovnik and is the southernmost of the larger islands; it covers an area of 62 square miles (100 square km).
    

Over two-thirds of the island is covered by forest with the western part (about a third of the island) declared one of Croatia's eight National Parks.

   

Mljet National Park makes up most of the island.

Largely covered by dense woodland, it centers on two interconnected turquoise salt water lakes, one with an islet capped by a 12th-century Benedictine monastery, which you can visit by taxi-boat.

The walking possibilities on the island are endless and you will find some incredible archaeological remains of great historical and cultural value, such as a Roman palace in Polace from the 3rd century.
 

Popular with nature lovers, the park offers plenty of things to do - numerous paths run through the woodland and a 9-km trail runs around the perimeter of the lakes, making it ideal for walking or mountain biking, or you can swim or hire a kayak to explore the lake.

 

The local culinary specialty is lobster.

 

There's only one hotel on the island, but local families rent rooms to visitors in summer.
