Many residents have moved out from the Old Town and now rent their apartments to visitors.  

While in Dubrovnik, you will be faced with a long list of sights you will be tempted to explore. Here are some tips.  

• Walk The City Walls

The Old Town's massive Gradske Zidine (city walls) were begun in the 13th century and reinforced over the years

Hours
Offices are open weekdays from 8.30 am to 4 pm. Shops often close from lunch around 1, and may closed for as long as three hours. Banks also sometimes close for lunch. Post offices are open on Saturday during the main summer season, from June through September

most trip-and quad-band GSM phones will work in Croatia. Public phones use calling cards, which can be purchased at the post office, newsstands and hotel. Major mobile phone companies include TMobile and VIPNet 

Coming Ashore
In Dubrovnik almost all ships dock at Cruz Harbor, which is 4 km (2.5 miles) from Stari Grad (Old Town).  

The trip to Dubrovnik's Old Town takes about 10 minutes by taxi or 30 too 30 minutes on foot. You can also take a public bus. There is a taxi stand at the harbor. 

A few smaller ships might still tender passengers ashore in the Old Town, where you are just steps from everything that Dubrovnik has to offer.

You do not really need to rent a car to explore Dubrovnik centre. All the main sites lie within the city walls, an area that is compact and car-free.
