A city so great they named it three times - St. Petersburg, Petrograd, and Leningrad. Peter the Great founded the city as the new capital of Russia in 1703 on a Finnish swamp, hoping to it would offer largely landlocked Russia a chance at a navy and serve as Russia's "Window on Europe".

Regardless of what you call the city on the Neva, once the home of such literati as Pushkin and Dostoyevsky, it is the Cultural capital of Russia.
Today you will be introduced to city's landmarks with a 3-hour city tour. You will also visit inside the historic Peter-n-Paul Fortress, from where the city began and where Russia's emperors starting from Peter the Great lie buried.

Your evening is free for independent activities or perhaps join an optional evening Canal cruise (B)
